How do I train my dog not to eat the food given by foreigners?
I have a French bulldog who loves to eat. I live in Europe, so I can take her just about anywhere with me (restaurants, bars, coffee shops, etc.) and is very well socialized. The problem when it is out of watching people eat until they feel guilty / sorry for her and then they end it throwing a piece of something to eat. It is certainly not a hungry dog, but she acts this way! What can I do to try to control / Manage his voracity for food? And how can – I told him not to accept food from strangers? Other than that shade "" re: it is a food very well behaved dog.
You might start by teaching your dog the command "leave", which is very useful if your dog is often face of delicious things on the ground … and perhaps other things that you do not want to enter, either. This site has a good article on education to "leave" – http://www.clickersolutions.com/articles/2001/leaveit.htm Personally, I would also approach the problem from the point of view of a people. I'm sure foreigners trying to be nice to distribute or throw food in their plates to your dog, but people must be informed it's not okay to give food to the strange dogs without the owner's permission. Especially since many people do not know commonly consumed foods such as onions or grapes, can actually be very dangerous for dogs. Since you know people are offering this behavior when you go out with your dog, make sure you can keep an eye on people around you. If you throw food to your dog, tell your dog to "leave" then recover – and put it on a towel or in the trash. Inform the person trying to feed your dog is well fed and you do not appreciate them throwing leftovers to her.
