Are there any training techniques that I could use on my dog?

My dog is 3 years old Maltese shih tzu mix. It is a total treasure and ate any site. He acts like he never ate. I eat twice a day the amount of food. The problem is, we have cats and we are constantly to gather food for cats up and down and if we leave space for a second, it goes straight to her. If he is not eating the food for cats, it is in the chat box to dig cat shit. It is very bad and I tried both methods of training for the arrest. Does anyone have other suggestions other then moving the box and cat food? Like all other training techniques?
